Mares generally possess enduring characteristics that preserve certain features, these being more strongly consolidated and harder to change in their fundamental structure. The selection of an ideal mare line is thus of significant importance, since mares are the basis for every population.  

They are selected as the basis for breeding efforts and represent their families well. The broodmare groups are all “type-oriented”, different, with varying distinctive features. This in turn improves the potential for mutual enhancement!
